Try your hand at making a handy tower shelf. Save the planet by upcycling and recycling all those old CD cases you have lying around.
Read through all the instructions first before starting this recycling craft.
Collect as many CD cases, also known as Jewel cases, you want to recycle. You need an even number as two recycled cases are required to make one square. Strip out the contents of the cases so that you are left with an empty jewel case.
Take the silicone or glue and place a spot on each hinge of the recycled CD case. This helps to make the structure more stable. On the other edge of the jewel case place 3 spots of glue along the lip. Repeat the above two steps to the second case that you are going to use to form your square.
Now you keep forming squares in this manner until you have made as many squares as you have cases for.
Wait for the glue to set, check the instructions on the glue you are using for the drying time.
Once the glue is set you are ready to glue all the squares together. Take two squares and place a generous blob of silicone or glue in each corner and then in the centre, making a number 5 pattern.
Now press the two squares firmly together. Keep adding squares like this until you form one row. In the same way create a second, third and fourth row that you will use to make your upcycled shelf. Wait for these rows to dry.
Taking the rows you have created, place spots of silicone or glue on one side of the row in a 5 pattern. Press the rows firmly together and wait until dry. If you are making a tower as in our example, each row should have one less square each time you go up one layer. In this way you can create many patters and funky designs, you can also continually add to your creation as you get more CD cases to play with!
